Is Your Car Out of Alignment? 6 Signs Every Idaho Driver Should Know

By Pablo Zaldivar · Junior's Auto Repair, Twin Falls, ID

Wheel alignment refers to the angle and direction your tires sit relative to the road. When alignment is off — even slightly — it affects how your car handles, how quickly your tires wear out, and how much fuel you burn. In the Magic Valley, rough roads and potholes make misalignment one of the most common issues mechanics see.

Sign 1: Your Car Pulls to One Side

If you're on a straight, level road and need to constantly correct your steering to keep the car going straight, your alignment is likely off. Even a slight pull causes extra wear on tires and steering components.

Sign 2: Uneven or Rapid Tire Wear

If one edge of your tire is wearing significantly faster than the other, or tires on one side of the car are more worn, alignment is usually the culprit. Catching this early can save you from replacing tires prematurely.

Sign 3: Steering Wheel Is Off-Center

If your steering wheel is turned slightly left or right when the car is going straight, your alignment needs adjustment. This often happens after hitting a curb or pothole.

Sign 4: Vibration in the Steering Wheel

Misalignment causes tires to fight against each other, creating vibration that travels up through the steering column.

Sign 5: Car Drifts During Braking

If your vehicle veers to one side when you brake, it could be alignment, brake, or suspension-related — all of which are safety issues.

Sign 6: After Suspension Work or an Accident

Any time you replace struts or control arms, or after any accident, your alignment should be checked and reset.
